Job Title – Project Engineer

Overall Purpose of the job:

To undertake ‘hands on’ working and supervision of labour in the field of electro / mechanical engineering repairs & installation. Liaising with all interested parties to ensure completion of all project work in a timely, cost effective manner and to the satisfaction of the customer and the Knowlton & Newman management team. The scoping of potential works, costing, quoting, project/team management, documentation and record keeping are key elements of this role.

Key Duties:

· Interpreting Customers’ requirements and scoping work packages.
· Sourcing relevant subcontractors and suppliers outside Knowlton & Newnan’s normal sphere of activities.
· Preparing and forwarding target costs/quotations to meet customers’ requirements.
· Removal of defective equipment, refitting of repaired equipment including electric motors, gearboxes, fans, pumps etc. Repair in-situ of equipment in the field.
· Supervision of operatives undertaking these tasks.
· Being the principal point of contact for the Customer and K&N Management team.
· ‘Hands on’ involvement with jobs.
· Deploying relevant in-house labour to ensure customers’ deadlines are met.
· Ensuring timely procurement of correct materials and equipment to discharge tasks.
· Ensuring smooth, efficient running of all works.
· Ensuring that all Health & Safety requirements are met including Risk Assessments/Method Statements.
· Ensuring that all Quality system requirements are met.
· Carry out any other reasonable request.

Key Skills:

· Thorough experience of Site Work preferably in the Water Utility industry.
· Excellent Health & Safety knowledge and application. IOSH or NEBOSH (or equivalent) qualification would be advantageous.
· Strong customer services and interpersonal skills.
· Good IT skills. Conversant with Microsoft Packages with an aptitude for learning inhouse systems and databases.
· Must be a self starter who can work under their own initiative.
· The ability to multi task and work under pressure.
· Possess a positive ‘can do’ attitude with a flexible approach to work.

Job Title – Mechanical Fitter/Mechanical Engineer

Reports to: Works Manager.

Hours: 8 am to 4 pm; Monday to Friday; 35 hours a week – reasonable over time expected to be worked.

Overall Purpose of the job:

Install, fit, test, assemble, commission, maintain and repair mechanical systems and equipment. Carry out work to the satisfaction of the customer and the management team.

Key Duties: 

  • Analyse job cards to determine job status, work authorizations/limitations, estimate, description of problems and / or expected serviceability.
  • Test mechanical equipment to troubleshoot known or suspected problems.
  • Disassemble mechanical equipment noting parts identification, configuration and condition.
  • Replace or repair worn or defective mechanical assemblies.
  • Requisition of replacement parts.
  • Verify repairs using start-up testing procedures.
  • Retest reassembled electro-mechanical equipment for proper output and operation.
  • Operate specialized equipment.
  • Work on Customer sites as well as in the Workshop.
  • Complete required paperwork for each job accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Follow all Company Health & Safety procedures and use proper personal protective equipment.
  • Keep work area neat and tidy.
  • Carry out any other reasonable request from the Management team.

Key skills & Experience:

  • Experience of customer site work preferably in the Water Utility industry.
  • Excellent Health & Safety knowledge and application.
  • Well organised with the ability to multi task.

Job Title: Electrical Engineer.

  • Test electro-mechanical equipment to troubleshoot / fault find.
  • Disassemble electro-mechanical equipment noting parts identification, configuration and condition.
  • Requisition of replacement electrical parts.
  • Verify repairs using start-up testing procedures.
  • Retest reassembled electro-mechanical equipment for proper output and operation.
  • Work on customer sites as well as in the Workshop.
  • Operate specialized equipment including Test Meters.
  • Complete required paperwork for each job accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Producing test / Minor Works certificates where applicable
  • Follow all Company Health & Safety procedures and use proper personal protective equipment.
  • Keep work area neat and tidy.
  • Carry out any other reasonable request from the Management

Key skills:

  • Experience of customer site work preferably in the Water Utility industry.
  • Excellent Health & Safety knowledge and application including safe isolation.
  • 18th Edition qualified. Test and Inspect qualification and advantage.
  • Well organised with the ability to multi task.
  • ‘Can do’ attitude with a flexible approach to work.
  • Sound electrical skills.

Job Title:  Driver / Labourer.

Hours:  8 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Monday to Friday with some over time expected.  

Reports to: Works Manager

Overall Purpose of the job:

To perform driving and labouring duties and to maintain the Workshop, yard and surrounding area in a clean and tidy order.

Key Duties:

  • Clean Workshop floor space and machinery as required.
  • Empty all bins from the Workshop, Canteen and Stores on a daily basis and ensure rubbish bags are put in the correct container ready for collection.
  • Ensure waste material is segregated correctly. (e.g. scrap metal, recycling.)
  • Check condition of Company vehicles and ensure the up keep of vehicle kits i.e. spill kits, fire extinguishers etc.  Report to the management team any defects in the condition of the vehicles.  Check Trailers (when available).
  • Drop off and pick up of goods and equipment to and from Customers and Suppliers.
  • Keep yard, area outside the yard, the area outside the office and car park, neat and tidy.
  • Keep check on gas bottle levels in the yard storage and level of fuel for diesel cleaner and generators.
  • Ensure dirty work wear, mats and towels are ready for collection.
  • Assist the engineering team in the Workshop and on Customer sites.
  • Carry out driving / labouring tasks or maintenance tasks requested by the Management team.
  • Check fire extinguishers are in place and are clean.
  • Follow all Health & Safety procedures and use proper personal protective equipment.
  • Carry out any other reasonable request from the Management team.

  • Well organised with the ability to multi task.
